2009 Tastings & Special Events

We provide a unique consumer experience in an educational and fun setting with our weekly and monthly special events. Westport Whiskey & Wine has both a retail package license and a bar license under the same roof. Dual licensure allows us to offer tastings for a nominal fee.

Every Thursday is our popular Open Bottle Night featuring the Thursday Special - buy 3 bottles of the featured selections, and receive a 10% discount.

Every Saturday afternoon from 1 to 5pm, come see what Andrew, Jon or Seth has pulled out to taste. For $2 you can find a great new wine, maybe a whiskey or some other libation.

July

Thursday, 16 July – 6:30 to 8:30 –Open Bottle Night Wine Tasting will feature wines from a Lexington Distributor, Toast of Kentucky. Their selection will span the Americas from Argentina, California & Oregon. The cost is still only $5.

Friday, 17 July – 6:30 to 7:30 – Schlafly Beer School. The folks from Schlafly Brewery of St Louis will be presenting an educational tasting that will cover how different styles of beers are made. This is limited to only 24 people. The cost is still only $15 or $10 for Tasting Club members.

Monday, 20 July – 7 to 8 – Meet the winemaker, David Girard of David Girard Vineyards in California, will be conducting a tasting of his unique Rhone-style wines. This is a limited seating event that costs $10 for Tasting Club members or $15 for everyone else.

Tuesday, 21 July – 7 to 8 – Big Reds Wine Tasting featuring wines from the Beringer Wine estates with Jim Diana. This is sure to include some really chewy cabs, magnificent merlot & a few other surprises. This tasting sells out quickly as the seating is limited. The cost is $30 or $25 for Tasting Club members.

Wednesday, 22 July – 7 to 8 – Whiskey Wednesday – Small Batch & Single Barrel Comparison Tasting - Great opportunity to taste 8 different small batch bourbon’s in one sitting & learn what makes them distinct. The cost is $20 or $15 for Tasting Club Members.

Thursday, 23 July – 6:30 to 8:30 – Open Bottle Night Wine Tasting features wines from Oregon’s Sokol Blosser winery. Have you tried Evolution? The cost is still only $5.

Monday, 27 July – 8 to 9 – Tequila Seminar & Tasting with Armando Zapata - Tequila Sauza - limited seating event. The cost is $15 or $10 for Tasting Club members.

Wednesday, July 29, 7pm, Food & Wine Pairing - Ruth’s Chris Chef Anthony Lusiak will serve food to match the wines from winemaker, Caitlin Pianetta of Pianetta Winery of Paso Robles - $35 or $30 for Tasting Club Members - A portion of the proceeds will benefit CASA.

Pianetta Vineyards - The first vintage yielded 370 cases of 2002 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then, we have grown to a 2200 case production and added Shiraz , Syrah, a Syrah/Cabernet blend, and a Rose style wine to our Estate wines, as well as Sangiovese, Petite Syrah, Zinfandel, and a Tuscan style blend from the Paso Robles appellation. The grapes received into our winery come from the terraced slopes, and are picked by hand. The grapes are then de-stemmed and lightly crushed and fermented. After the wine is drained and pressed, it is aged in predominantly French oak barrels for 18 months, then bottled by hand.

Ruth’s Chris, noted as the best USDA Prime Steak in Louisville, will have both Chef Anthony Lusiak & General Manager Jeff Leppert serving:

  • Barbecued Shrimp, Sautéed New Orleans style in reduced white wine, butter, garlic and spices
  • Mini Steak Sandwiches with USDA Prime Beef & fresh horseradish
  • Caramelized Banana Cream Pie, Creamy white chocolate banana custard in our flaky crust, topped with caramelized bananas

Thursday, 30 July – 6:30 to 8:30 – Open Bottle Night Wine Tasting welcomes Clyde Gilbert of Raymond Winery who will feature wines from their Reserve Series and their R Collection. Also, David Smillie of Bryant Distributing will be tasting Svedka Vodka flavors. The cost is $5.

August

Tuesday, 4 Aug – 7 to 8 pm – Tequila Tuesday featuring the tequila from El Jimador & Herradura with special guest speaker, Jesus “Chuy” Ostos, Brand Manager Global Tequila Brands of Brown-Forman. This is a limited seating tasting class that will focus on the differences in style & tastes as well as how to make great cocktails. Then after the tasting stroll the Village in celebration of National Night Out! The cost is only $15 or $10 for Tasting Club members.

Thursday, 6 Aug – 6:30 to 8:30 –Open Bottle Night Wine Tasting welcomes Rich Parducci, winemaker & owner of McNab Ridge Winery from Mendocino County, California. “We make wines that get people to ask for a second glass,” says Rich. Also, we will have a tasting of hand-crafted spirits from the Rogue Brewery. And we will be bringing back cheese & bread to our tastings. With all that’s happening the cost for our tastings will be $10.

Friday, 7 Aug – 6:30 to 8:30 – First Friday Beer Tasting Kelly has something magic tonight. Magic Hat Brewery from Vermont crafts some of America’s best beers. Come taste the magic behind #9, Roxy Rolles & others. The cost is $5.

Wednesday, 12 Aug – 6:30 to 8:30 pm – Women’s Only Wednesday will feature wines from Down Under focusing on Australia’s d’Arenberg, Shoofly & Innocent Bystander wineries. Also, local vendor Kilinmanjaro Foods will be mixing cocktails with their Ginger Syrup, yummy! Chair massages will be provided by elements therapeutic massage. Snacks by Robert Rothschild Farms. And as always an extra surprise or two. Bring your friends or plan to make new ones. Only $5.

Thursday, 13 Aug – 6:30 to 8:30 pm – Second Thursday Open Bottle Night Wine Tasting sponsored by J Alexander’s will feature some really nice Italian wines from DiVino Imports of Lexington, KY. From bubbly Moscato to big & chewy Nebbiolo, this will be a food friendly tasting. Food, wine & fun, a great value at $10.

Saturday, 15 Aug – 5 – 7 pm – Market Fresh Cocktails – We welcome Master Mixologist Bridget Albert, author of the book, “Market Fresh Cocktails.” Bridget will conduct a limited seating classroom event where guests will learn to make some exceptional cocktails with local ingredients, including Kilimanjaro Ginger Syrup, Bourbon Barrel Foods Vanilla & fresh fruits from the Westport Village Farmer’s Market (every Saturday 2-5pm). Bridget will be mixing all the local ingredients with Absolut Vodkas, Beefeater Gin & Malibu Rums. The cost $15 or $10 for Tasting Club Members. Book your seat soon!

Tuesday, 18 Aug – 7 to 8 pm – Big Reds Wine Tasting featuring wines from the portfolio of Heidelberg Distributors. We will have some great wines from around the globe & this tasting sells out quickly as the seating is limited. The cost is $30 or $25 for Tasting Club members.

Wednesday, 19 Aug – 7 to 8 pm – Do you know Jack? This is a tasting of Tennessee’s favorite son, Jack Daniel’s. We will taste what makes Tennessee whiskey distinctly not bourbon. Also, there will be an opportunity to get a bottle of Gentleman Jack personally engraved either for your back bar or as a gift. This is limited to only 24 people. The cost is still only $15 or $10 for Tasting Club members.

Thursday, 20 Aug – 6:30 to 8:30 pm – Open Bottle Night Wine Tasting welcomes Jay Dunn of Prestige Wine Imports who will present some great Italian wines from Sicily in the south to Verona in the north; whites, reds & some bubbles, too. Cheeses will be served, too. A great evening for only $10.

Wednesday, 26 Aug – 7 to 8 – Whiskey Wednesday – Jim Rutledge, Master Distiller of Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, KY will conduct a tasting of Four Roses bourbons. Also, he hopes to debut his 2009 Mariage bourbon. This is limited to 24 people so, book your seat soon. The cost is $20 or $15 for Tasting Club Members.

Thursday, 27 Aug – 6:30 to 8:30 pm – Open Bottle Night Wine Tasting features wines from local distributor Bacchus Wines. Steven Rountree of Bacchus will offer a selection of wines from his favorite wineries. Along with the wine a selection of cheeses will be served. At $10 per person, this is a great way to spend your Thursday evening.
